Hidden heating leak or boiler fault?

Understand why the first assessment may need to look beyond the pipes.

WE FIND LEAKS · 2 MIN READ

Several causes can produce pressure loss

A leak in the heating circuit is one possibility, but boiler components and system behaviour also matter. A lack of visible damp does not settle the question. Nor does a wet patch prove that all pressure loss comes from one concealed pipe.

Use previous findings to narrow the work

Ask the heating professional what was checked, under which conditions and what they concluded. A brief written account can be more useful than simply saying the boiler is fine. Leak detection can then focus on the circuit evidence without repeating assumptions.

Keep the roles clear

Concealed water-pipe investigation and gas appliance servicing are different instructions. The engineer should explain which type of assessment is appropriate. At We Find Leaks, we define the agreed plumbing work before booking and flag when the evidence calls for another specialist.

Keep these points in mind

  • Share the appliance and system type if known
  • Explain hot-versus-cool pressure changes
  • Do not remove appliance covers

This guide provides general preparation information. The right investigation depends on the property, its systems and the evidence available. For active flooding, electrical danger or an unsafe ceiling, seek urgent appropriate help rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
